So getting an entire car painted by a professional is going to leave a\nhuge hole in your pocket. If you don\u2019t want to spend that kind of money on a\nused car, you could just do it yourself. Here are a few DIY tips on how to\npaint a second-hand car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-button aligncenter\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-vivid-cyan-blue-background-color has-background wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/tata-blog.osian.dev\/vehicle-loan\/used-car-loan.html\">Know More About Used Car Loan<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Before\nwe get started, do note that the end result may not be as it would if you got\nit done at a garage. However, you are also going to spend less than 20%, so the\ntrade-off is decent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s\nget the paint rolling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u200b\u200bSupplies to Buy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u200b\u200b\u200bFace mask<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Safety glasses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Painter\u2019s tape<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sandpaper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spray gun<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Primer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paint<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paint thinner<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clear lacquer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Buffer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For an average-sized hatchback or sedan, 2 liters of primer, 3\nliters of paint and 2 liters of clear lacquer is recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prep Work<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u200b\u200b<\/strong>Find a big covered space to\ndo the paint job. There are chances of dust and leaves spoiling the work\noutdoors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thoroughly clean the car to remove any dirt. Put on your face\nmask and safety glasses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first big job you need to do is sand. You need to spend a\nfew hours doing this if you want the optimum finished result. Sanding will\nremove the dirt, thin layers of rust and give you a smooth canvas to paint on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then comes priming. Put the primer and thinner in the spray gun\nand practice using it first. Once comfortable, start spraying the car from the\ntop-down. You will need at least 2 coats of the primer. Let each coat cure for\nan hour before applying the next one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you will again need to sand the car to get a smooth finish.\nDon\u2019t sand too much or you will strip down all the primer. You need to sand\njust enough to get rid of a powdery feel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Actual Paint Job<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u200b\u200b<\/strong>Clean your spray gun and\nput in the paint color you want. Add thinner to get the right consistency.\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put painter\u2019s tape on areas of the car you don\u2019t want to get\npaint on. These would include lights, door handles, bumper, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the same top-down method to spray your car with paint. Spray\nat least 3 even coats. Give it an hour or more between coats to ensure it is\ncompletely dry and cured.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the last coat has dried, wipe it down with a clean cloth to\nremove any powdery effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Final Touches<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You now need to paint the clear lacquer to get a glossy final\nresult. Clean your spray gun and put the lacquer. You can put 1 or 2 coats\ndepending on your personal preference.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the same top-down method to spray the lacquer. Remove the\npainter\u2019s tape before the lacquer dries or it will get stuck to the car.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let the car completely dry.
