Japanese tech major Sony recently came out with the WF-XB700 set of truly wireless earphones. The XB700 will be available in black and blue colours and is priced at Rs 9,990.

Look and feel

The Sony WF-XB700 wireless earphones come in a compact charging case that lights up through an LED when on USB charging. This is a new feature that isn’t commonplace yet. Its sleek design gives it a look and feel way above its price point. The driver length is 12 mm and each of the buds weigh around 8 grams. The weight of the charging case is 46 grams.

Accessibility

The Sony WF-XB700 is quite easy to use. Both sides pair seamlessly with any device. Two small buttons on the buds help you control volume and navigate your music on the wireless earphones. Volume controls are on the left and skip and pause on the right. The button on the right side also lets you receive a phone call and connects the voice assistant on the relaying device.

This pair of Sony earphones is water resistant for everyday use. With the monsoons starting, you don’t have to worry about the rain gods while going out for a walk with the XB700. Since it’s splash proof, even sweat beads aren’t going to be a problem amid rising temperatures across the country.

How it sounds

The WF-XB700 is a treat for those who like extra bass in their music. One good thing is it doesn’t whiz in your years even when you listen to softer jazz or blues which  doesn’t happen with most peers that have the extra bass feature. However, it doesn’t have the noise cancellation feature. So if your music listening space has a lot of ambient sounds, you should take this factor into consideration. It might not be a great idea to take Zoom calls with this set of wireless earphones as the voice on the other end might sound a bit thin and dispersed.

Another miss is the lack of gesture control, but one can’t really complain with the audio profile this pair gives at the price point. The extra bass claim to fame works wonders as you won’t miss a single drum beat while climbing the Stairway to Heaven (sic!).

You can get up to 18 hours of listening with this set of Sony earphones — the earbuds provide a whopping 9 hours of music playback and one additional full charge on the case.  And if you’re in a hurry, 10 minutes’ quick charging gives you up to 60 minutes of music playback. It takes around two hours for charging the device to 100%.

The Sony WF-XB700 set of truly wireless earphones is definitely a good choice given its price segment. Its peers in terms of pricing would cost you at least a hefty Rs 5000 more.
