Essential Phone 2 is expected to be launched on 30th October 2019

Many of you might not know that the founder and developer of Essential phones, Andy Rubin is also the creator of our favourite smartphone operating system. Yes, you read it right. He is the co-founder of Android and also a former executive at Google. After he left Google, he decided to build his smartphone brand – Essential.

The first Essential phone PH-1 was launched in May 2017. The revolutionary device was the first to initiate a notch display housing a selfie camera. One of the main attractions of the device is the super-fast Android updates. This two-year-old smartphone was one of the first phones to get the latest Android 10 update when many of its competitors are still lagging behind.

Gearing up for a new launch

As per a video leaked on YouTube, the brand is allegedly working on creating a new smartphone- Essential Phone 2. The video was followed by a tweet from the company’s CEO, Andy Rubin asking people to ‘hang tight’. The excitement for the brand’s second smartphone is evidently soaring high. Here’s what we know so far:

Design

All leaks point towards a phenomenal body and design, that can give a tough competition to most other popular flagship phones. The front is entirely glass, and the frame is made out of polished titanium. The smartphone has some control buttons on the right side and three vertically-aligned cameras on the back. Essential Phone 2 will sport a camera hole centred at the top of the display. The brand plans to launch the phone in variants of different colours. So far, we have a confirmation on white, silver, grey, and black.

Display and Selfie Camera

Several videos and photos that surfaced in the last couple of weeks show Essential Phone 2 with an edge-to-edge display. There is a front-facing camera housed at the top. There are also rumours that the phone is equipped with an under-display camera, that’s completely hidden while you’re using other applications on the device.

Connectivity and Storage

The handset will include a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom, along with a Type-C port, and a loudspeaker. The fingerprint scanner is nowhere to be seen in the leaked video, so it is safe to assume that Essential is opting for an in-display with Phone 2.

So far there’s news of just a single variant of 6 GB RAM and an internal storage capacity of 128GB. The details on expandable memory options have not been revealed yet.

Price

Essential Phone 2 is expected to cost Rs. 48,990 in India and if reports are to be believed, it will be launched on Oct 30, 2019.
