With a presence in over 90 countries, Citroen has been a well-known French manufacturer in the international market since 1919. C5 Aircross SUV will be launched by PSA Groupe in India through the Citroen brand in 2020. As Citroen’s first CKD model in India, it will be the first of its kind. Among its competitors will be the Honda CR-V, MG Hector, Hyundai Tucson, and Jeep Compass. The French company plans to introduce one new model per year after the C5 Aircross.
Following the launch of the C3 hatchback, Citroen plans to introduce three more models in the Indian market. In 2023, the company will introduce an entirely new electric vehicle. A new compact SUV is also being developed under the C-Cubed project by the French automaker. It is scheduled to introduce the C3 hatchback, a compact SUV, and an unnamed all-new model as part of its C-Cube program.
With prices ranging from Rs. 5.98 lakhs to Rs. 37.17 lakhs, Citroen cars India offers two new models in India. It is worth noting that Citroen’s C3 (Rs. 5.98 lakhs) and C5 Aircross (Rs. 37.17 lakhs) are popular models. There are two Citroens in the price range of Rs. 5.98 lakhs and Rs. 37.17 lakhs, with the C3 being the cheapest. There will be a launch of the eC3 (12.00 lakhs) and Compact SUV (9.00 lakhs) by Citroen cars in India in 2023-2024.
Citroen is also rumoured to be working on a new SUV to compete with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and MG Astor. There has been a recent sighting of the company’s new compact SUV in India. Based on the C3 hatchback, the next-generation Citroen Aircross will most likely be called the C3 Aircross.
There will be an option of 1.2-litre NA or Turbo petrol engines under the hood of the Citroen mini SUV. There are currently only manual transmission options for these engines, and it is uncertain if there will be an automatic option at launch.
As a Citroen compact SUV, the Citroen will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet following its launch.
In India, Citroen C5 Aircross has been the halo model for the French brand. This large, five-seat SUV competes against the Skoda Karoq and Hyundai Tucson, as well as Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace and Toyota Fortuner, which are both larger and more expensive models. There is a strong focus on space and comfort in true French fashion, both inside and out. Initially, only the front wheels receive power from the 2.0-litre diesel powerplant mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox on the C5 Aircross.
Two petrol engines are available for the C3: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated one (82PS and 115Nm) coupled with a 5-speed manual and a 1.2-litre turbocharged one (110PS and 190Nm) equipped with a 6-speed manual. Compared to the former, the latter claims a fuel economy of 19.4kmpl. Diesel engines and automatic transmissions are not currently available in the C3.
