Tata Capital > Blog > Places to Visit in Kenya
Kenya provides travelers with a diverse array of experiences. From savannas filled with wildlife to clean beaches and lively cities, there are a lot of places to visit in Kenya.
Here are a few places you must visit in this east African jewel:
Masai Mara is probably the most famous wildlife reserve and a must-visit Kenya tourist place. Famous for the Great Migration that sees millions of wildebeest and zebras cross its plains, it’s a natural wonder that attracts visitors from across the globe.
Apart from the migration, Masai Mara is home to “the Big Five”: lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos and buffaloes.
Amboseli is a well-known Kenya tourist place. It is known for its beautiful views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest peak. Kaokoland is famous for its vast grasslands where you can find herds of elephants in the shadow of the mountain.
Other wildlife includes giraffes, zebras and many species of birds. It includes an observation hill that has complete views of the whole park — A photographer’s dream.
Nairobi is the capital city of Kenya. It is a metropolitan city steeped in both modernity and nature. The Nairobi National Park gives visitors a chance to sight wildlife against an urban backdrop.
There are many places to see in Kenya’s Nairobi. Visit orphaned elephants at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, and meet the endangered Rothschild giraffe at the Giraffe Centre. With its markets, museums and mouth-watering food, there’s never a dull moment in Nairobi.
Mombasa is a coastal center of life with a long history and stunning beaches. The streets and Arab architecture of the Old Town tell a story about the city’s Swahili culture.
Fort Jesus is a standing proof of the city’s historical significance. Diani Beach, to the south, has white sands and clear waters, making it a popular spot for lounging and water sports.
World-famous for the thousands of flamingos that once turned its shores pink, Lake Nakuru is a birding paradise. The acacia forests and grasslands of the park also shelter rhinos, lions and leopards. Scenic Makalia Waterfall located in the park serves as an ideal picnic spot.
Stepping onto Lamu Island is like entering a time capsule. Lamu, one of the most popular Kenya sightseeing places, has preserved Swahili architecture and a subtle vibe. No cars are allowed on the island, so travel is primarily by donkey or dhow. The Lamu Museum provides insight into the island’s storied history, and the annual Lamu Cultural Festival features traditional dances, crafts and boat races.
These parks are one of the largest reserves in the world. Tsavo East is known for its wide open plains and the Galana River, whereas Tsavo West offers more rugged terrain with volcanic hills and dense bush. The two parks house a high diversity of wildlife, including the famous “Red” elephants, colored by the park’s red soil.
Mount Kenya is the second-highest peak in Africa, and one of the most enthralling places to go in Kenya where there are multiple trekking opportunities for adventurers. In fact, the park’s various ecosystems consist of bamboo forests, alpine moorlands and glaciers.
Climbers may make an attempt to reach Point Lenana, while the less adventurous people can explore the rich flora and fauna on the lower slopes. The region is also close to the Kikuyu, who hold the mountain to be sacred.
If you are preparing a bucket list, include Diana Beach, a famous Kenya place to visit. For those craving sun and sea, Diani Beach is a coastal paradise. Its palm-fringed shores and turquoise water make it a great spot for lounging and water sports such as snorkeling, diving and kite surfing. The nearby Kaya Kinondo Sacred Forest is a window into the cultural heritage of the Digo people.
From its varied terrain to its incredible cultural mosaic, no other destination is quite like Kenya. Whether you are tracking the Big Five in the savannas, relaxing on pristine beaches or immersing in local traditions, an adventure in Kenya will last in your mind.
