The flagship smartphones from OnePlus are always eagerly awaited, and naturally, the excitement about the upcoming OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8 is running high. The phones are projected to arrive on April 15, 2020. Both models are fully expected to offer the most future-ready technologies in the smartphone sector this year.

With modern smartphones offering stiff competition to standalone point-and-shoot cameras, consumers are always looking for advanced camera specifications in the newly released models. Expectations are quite elevated about the camera features of the latest OnePlus lineups. Will the actual specifications live up to what the consumers want? Have a look at what rumors say.

OnePlus 8 Pro

Rumors suggest that the rear camera will be housed in a central vertically stacked bump. The primary 48 MP camera with f/1.78 aperture size and 0.8 microns pixel size will have the latest Sony IMX689 sensor, one of the best mobile camera sensors that ensure brighter pictures. 

One Plus 8 Pro Front Camera

Pixel-binning technology will merge multiple pixels into effectively larger pixels, producing detailed images with lesser digital noise. An image resolution capacity of 8000 x 6000 Pixels is predicted. Phase detection autofocus capacities will allow rapid and precise focusing.

The auxiliary cameras will include a 48 MP f/2.2wide angle IMX586 camera lens. It will provide a 120-degree field of view (FoV), facilitating improved landscape photography. An 8MP (f/2.44) telephoto lens with 3X optical zoom and 30X digital zoom is likely to be present. Rumors also suggest a 5MP depth sensor or color filter.  

Computational photography algorithms like Night Portrait Mode will support capturing brilliant pictures in low light conditions. Cinematic effects and 3-HDR video shooting modes will add to the quality of videos shot with this phone. The camera will have improved optical image stabilization (OIS) to reduce blurring and touch to focus, face detection, and digital zoom capacities.

Camera settings will consist of exposure compensation and ISO control for better manipulation of ambient light conditions, producing enhanced picture quality.

A circular notch at the top left corner of the display panel will contain the front camera. The punch-hole camera is likely to have a 32MP lens for capturing sharp selfies.

OePlus 8 Pro Camera Features

OnePlus 8

Although a lesser variant than the Pro, OnePlus 8 is also expected to pack quite a punch in terms of camera specifications. Some of the expected features include:

  • A triple camera setup
  • 48MP principal shooter, a 16MP ultra-wide or telephoto lens and a 2MP depth sensor
  • 32MP selfie snapper housed in a circular punch-hole cutout
  • The sensor, image resolution, settings, shooting modes, and other camera features are likely to be the same as the Pro version.
