Tata Capital > Blog > OnePlus 8 vs. OnePlus 8 Pro – Specs, Prices, and Details you Need to Know
OnePlus launched the eagerly awaited OnePlus 8 and the more sophisticated OnePlus 8 Pro on April 14, 2020. What are the new features present in OnePlus 8? Should you go for the higher-priced Pro? Here is a rundown on all the details of the two models to help you decide.
Design and display
The outward appearance of both OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are similar with curved glass at the front, sleek glass bodies, metal frames, and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. With IP68 certification, OnePlus 8 Pro is water-resistant up to a depth of 5 feet.

OnePlus 8 features a 6.55-inch display while the Pro version is larger with a 6.78-inch screen. OnePlus Pro provides sharper images with a quad-HD+ resolution of 1440 x 3168 (513 ppi), as against the full-HD+ 1080 x 2400 resolution (402 ppi) in OnePlus 8. With a 120Hz refresh rate, the Pro offers a smoother viewing experience as opposed to the 90Hz screen on OnePlus 8. The Pro version also filters out 40% more blue light than the standard version, making the screen more comfortable for viewing.
Battery
A 4,300mmAh battery fuels the lower-priced variant while OnePlus 8 has a smaller 4,510mAh cell. At the lowest screen refresh rate, both models sustain around 11 hours of battery life. Both the models support Warp Charge 30T technology that charges the batteries to 60% full within 30 minutes. The Pro version also supports 30W wireless charging that delivers a 53% charge in half an hour. If you need a phone that lasts long, you can consider buying either of them with interest-free consumer durable loans.

Camera
The triple-camera of OnePlus 8 has Sony’s 48MP IMX586 lens as the primary sensor, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro lens, and delivers up to 2X zoom. In contrast, OnePlus 8 Pro sports a quad-lens rear camera with Sony’s IMX689 48MP sensor as the primary lens. It also has a 48MP ultra-wide sensor, an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x hybrid zoom, and a 5MP color filter that provides advanced lighting effects. The Pro’s bigger sensor features 1.12-micron pixels while the lesser variant has a 0.8-micron pixel size. The quality of photographs is undoubtedly better with the more expensive model.
Performance
The top-tier chipset from Qualcomm, Snapdragon 865, powers the phones, which run on Android 10 with the custom UI OxygenOS on top. Both models have 8GB or 12GB RAM variants, but in OnePlus 8 Pro, it is LPDDR5 RAM, whereas, in OnePlus 8 it isLPDDR4X RAM. The Pro model, thus, has 30% higher memory speed and consumes 20% less power than OnePlus 8.

OnePlus 8 Pro boasts superior features like faster RAM, better camera, and wireless charging, but costs more with a starting price of $899 (~Rs 68,964). OnePlus 8 is more pocket-friendly, with a starting price of $699 (Rs 53,622).
