Tata Capital > Blog > Personal Use Loan > How to Prepare for GRE If You Want to Study Abroad?
If you want to pursue your master’s degree abroad, you must start preparing for the Graduate Record Examinations or GRE.
Today, over 600 schools accept GRE scores worldwide to vet eligible students. So, every aspirant with a desire to study abroad has to appear for it. Sure, it’s a relatively expensive test, but you can opt for a small personal loan to pay for it and its prep.
Sadly, GRE is a tough nut to crack. So, if you’re appearing for the exam anytime soon, here are a few tips to help you get started.
Take a mock GRE test to figure out which sections are easier for you to solve and which are challenging. If you’re quick with data interpretation or the quantitative sections but are weak in verbal reasoning, work on the latter first.
Assessing your weakness is key to bettering your GRE score. Simply put, don’t push the challenging bits for later. Identify and tackle them before you get started on the sections you enjoy solving.

There was a time when enrolling in a coaching class was seen as the only way to prepare for GRE. But, not anymore! Thanks to the internet sprawling with GRE sample papers, and prep books, self-study is a viable option for GRE. How to prepare, however, will still depend on the study strategy you undertake.
This is not to say that you shouldn’t enrol in a coaching class. If you’re short on time, you can opt for coaching. However, the combined expenses for appearing for a GRE test and coaching can be taxing. To cover both, you can take a small loan, fortunately, available at low personal loan interest rates these days. This way, you won’t dent your savings for taking the GRE.
Experts recommend dedicating anywhere between 50 to 200 hours to complete GRE prep. Although a minimum of 50 hours won’t be enough to revise the entire course, it still can help you cover all topics.
So, create a timetable where you assign at least a few hours every day for your GRE prep, even if you work full time or are nearing the end of your undergrad degree.
Vocabulary is an important part of GRE’s verbal sections. So, building up your vocab can be your edge to score higher, as most candidates lose out here. To prepare for vocab, start reading academic journal publications and refer to the GRE books dedicated to the vocab section. You’ll find several good options online.
